In this clip : Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker. About this clip : This is the only moment in the entire SATC narrative where we see Carrie drive a car. And drive she does, to meet Matthew McConaughey at the Warner Brothers' Studio in the City of Angels, struggling against the Santa Monica elevation. Besides, this is the only moment in the entire narrative where the narrative escapes itself and reaches out to its filmic counterpart in a prophetic, time-travel fashion, as if tearing the very fabric of space-time after it oh-so-easily warps in the luminosity of the Big Hollywood star. This makes this scene both extra-narrative and meta-narrative in an utter simultaneity. Earlier in the episode, we learn that Carrie bar-chatted with Debbie, The Junior Development Executive, who excitedly and jubilantly promises that her "The New York Star" column will be filmed for a Hollywood movie to which end she should be meeting the Hollywood star-slash-producer, Matthew McConaughey at three pm, the following day. Carrie manages to drive her car to the Warner Brothers studio at LA to reach there well in time. However, rendezvous with the Hollywood star turns out to be bizarre. It surfaces that LA is really, Carrie's "parallel universe" where things are just the same as in NYC and yet very different. For instance, Matthew McConaughey insists that Carrie must marry Big in the SATC's to-be-filmed narrative yet play-acts "Mr. Big" himself, practically confusing Carrie by crudely, invasively flirting (2:34) with her. Importantly, in the post-Weinstein world, it is incautious to overlook Carrie's less-than-comfortable reaction to the "Big" advances being made towards her. Such a spatial, inter-dimensional reading of this extra-narrative, meta-narrative scene gains credibility owing to its "escapist" leitmotif, popular in the Bildungz narratives of the famous Alice and The Wizard of Oz books. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Carrie has to walk only a few steps away from WB studio and she legitimately starts to think that she has suddenly reached New York and can therefore smoke, (im)practically arguing against the WB security on patrol. LA has been re-presented as a strange place where an apparent pornstar turns out to be a lawyer for the Disney. LA can be seen as a site of contradictions. Samantha attributes a magical quality to the LA air as the porn-specialist and her LA-fling, the numero uno dildo-model, Garth, is willing to relocate to New York for her to pursue his real passion : "Poetry"! Equally surprisingly, later in the episode, Miranda Hobbes, unsure of her ability to sexually express herself fully, "escapes" herself when we see her bull-riding in the Saddle Ranch Chop House, with an escape velocity - shocking herself and her girlfriends with her screams of joy.
